Eurostat presents a selection of migrant integration indicators

The selected migrant integration indicators allow monitoring of the Commission’s actions defined in the Action plan on Integration and Inclusion 2021-2027 in relation to education and training, employment opportunities and skills recognition, as well as access to health services, and adequate and affordable housing.

Among key figures on migrant integration in the EU (2021), Eurostat highlights that:

  • In 2021, among persons aged 20–64 years living in the EU, 59.1 % of non-EU citizens were employed, notably less than for citizens of other EU Member States (74.4 %) and nationals (74.0%). When it comes to unemployment, the rate was 6.3 % for nationals, 8.7 % for citizens of other EU Member States and approximately twice as high, 15.5 %, for non-EU citizens.
  • Regarding educational attainment, non-EU citizens aged 25-74 years old were more likely to have a low educational attainment level (45.9%) than nationals (22.1%) and EU citizens living in another Member State (28.9%).
  • In terms of social inclusion, 48.4% of non-EU citizens (aged 18 years old or older) were at risk of poverty or social exclusion against 19.5% of nationals and 27.5% of EU citizens residing in another Member State. Regarding housing, in 2021, only 24.2% of non-EU citizens owned a home in the EU, against 35.0% of EU citizens residing in another Member State and 74.3% of nationals.
