About the conference: The globalized world with new communication-means strengthens the bonds between migrants and their countries of origin. Activities, which are the results of this reality, are called ‘transnational activities’, which take place on different fields like trade, development, culture or social actions.

Although the scientific literature about the concept of ‘transnationalism’ evolved in recent years, the empirical research in Belgium is still limited. To fill this gap, the King Baudouin Foundation initiated research on the transnational activities of the four before mentioned groups of migrants in Belgium.

The conference will not only provide more information on the phenomenon of transnational activities but will also debate the question of the impact of those activities on the integration process of migrants.
