Welcoming a migrant at home: in what form and with what legal consequences (Ciré)

Through this publication, the Ciré informs private persons, who wish to welcome a migrant at home, about the needs of the sector and the legal consequences.

The current migratory crisis generates waves of generosity. Private persons who wish to welcome a migrant at home should know and take into account the needs of the sector and the legal consequences.

The publication clarifies what options are available, for whom, under what form, for which duration, under which financial conditions and with which legal consequences. The publication distinguishes between welcoming:

  • a refugee (holding the refugee status according to the Geneva Convention)
  • an asylum-seeker (who has an application being examined)
  • an undocumented person

The publication stresses that the needs of migrants vary significantly (from a single room to a house), and the duration of accomodation (from emergency to long term) is also diverse. Furthermore statuses of persons to be accomodated differ (from refugees to undocumented persons). All this has an impact on accomodation possibilities.

The publication isn't available in English.
