Press release and conference: EASO Annual Report and Latest Asylum Trends in Europe

On July 7, a press conference was held with Commissioner Cecilia Malmström and EASO's Executive Director entitled: 'EASO Annual Report on the Situation of Asylum in the European Union in 2013' and 'Latest Asylum Trends in Europe'.

Today EASO released its yearly reference report: The Annual Report on the Situation of Asylum in the European Union 2013. The Report aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the situation of asylum in the EU, by examining requests for international protection to the EU, analysing application and decision data, and focusing on some of the most important countries of origin of applicants for international protection.

The press release on this report can be found below. The full report can be found on this link on the EMN website or on the website of EASO.

There was also a press release on the latest asylum trends in Europe.
In the first 5 months of 2014, there was a 19% rise in the number of applications for asylum in the EU compared to the same period last year. This follows the 30% increase seen in numbers of asylum applications in 2013 compared to 2012.

A video shows the press conference given by Cecilia Malmström, Member of the EC in charge of Home Affairs, and Rob Visser, Executive Director of the European Asylum Support Office (EASO), on this report.
